His colleagues there were Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen
and Ray Kaiser, who became his wife in 1941.
During World War II he and his wife produced plywood

plywood over three geometric planes into complex curves.
Charles and Ray Eames worked closely with the manufacturer
Herman Miller, creating highly innovative, beautiful furniture
Later Eames concentrated on film-making and photography
and worked for companies like IBM or the US Government.

The first book to investigate the philosophy and driving spirit
behind the work of Charles and Ray Eames, "An Eames Primer"
offers an in-depth look at the couple's prolific legacy--one
that has placed them among the most important American designers
of the 20th century and at the forefront of Modernism. 200 color
Charles and Ray Eames, the husband-and-wife design team who
pioneered economical, mass-produced, curvilinear furniture,
created such familiar objects as their eponymous lounge chair,
often called a modern interpretation of a 19th-century English
club chair. This heavily illustrated company history, a compilation
of its major projects, begins with the duo's molded-plywood
experiments of the 1940s which spawned aircraft parts, children's
toys and folding screens. The book proceeds through the '70s
with functional furniture for homes and offices as well as exhibition
layouts, audio components, houses designed with Eero Saarinen,
graphics and slide shows. Also spotlighted are the Eameses'
movies, documentaries ranging from illustrations of communication
principles to cultural explorations of Mexico and India. The
Neuharts are former colleagues of the Eameses.

Published on the occasion of a major international traveling
exhibition organized by the U.S. Library of Congress and the
Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany (holders of the
two richest Eames collections in the world), this comprehensive
volume is a testament to the Eameses' belief that good design
could improve people's lives. From the 1940s to the 1970s, the
prolific husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames designed
furniture, buildings, exhibitions, and interiors, and made films.
They are perhaps best known for the form-fitting chairs that
were mass-produced using the same techniques the Eameses developed
in their first apartment. Taking a multifaceted approach to
their multifaceted careers, this comprehensive, clothbound volume
with French folds includes a filmography, making clear the pair's
profound influence on the visual vernacular of the 20th century.
